Start With Deer Tracks and Resting Areas
To search for White-Tailed Deer need zones, follow tracks, identify deer with binoculars, and scout their resting and feeding areas. These actions help you search, but they do not establish the exact interaction that registers separate zones for White-tailed Sightings.
Keep notes on the places you have already searched so your next scouting pass covers different ground. Treat those notes as a navigation aid rather than proof that a location has counted toward the objective.
Follow a Deer Trail and Scout Its Routine
- Adjust tracking-clue visibility in the difficulty settings if ground clues are difficult to see. This makes the trail easier to read while you search for animal activity.
- Hold the inspect input shown on a track to follow that specific animal. The released tracking system supports this action, so use your own control binding instead of copying a key from another player's setup.
- Use binoculars to identify deer you encounter along the trail. Establishing the target's identity helps keep your search focused on White-Tailed Deer.
- Check wind direction on your GPS before approaching the animals. Avoid an approach that carries your scent from your position toward the deer.
- Use your dog's command wheel when you need tracking assistance. Your companion can help spot tracks and follow a trail as you explore.
- Mark resting and feeding areas on your map as you find them. These give you places to revisit while learning the animals' routines.
Read Age and Trophy Potential Together
Animals grow, age and develop through SimFauna, and their genetics influence trophy potential. Age belongs in your assessment, but it should not be your only reason to choose a deer for a trophy hunt.
Trophy scoring considers the animal's weight, age and antlers or horns, alongside the correct hunting license and an appropriate calibre. Consider the animal's characteristics and your hunting preparation together when deciding whether to take the shot.
Animal score and hunter score are distinct objectives: a diamond animal score and a perfect hunter score are listed separately. Keep those goals separate when judging a result, rather than treating a well-executed hunt as a promise of a diamond animal score.
The trophy calculations take inspiration from Boone & Crockett without following that system exactly. There is no separate Boone & Crockett scoring option, so use the game's scoring information when assessing your trophies.
Prepare Separately for a Trophy Harvest
If you decide to harvest a deer during your scouting trip, buy the correct hunting license from the computer in your Hunting Lodge beforehand. Without the appropriate license, the trophy cannot be validated.
Check the species' recommended calibre icons before heading out. When taking a shot, aim for vital organs such as the lungs, heart or liver rather than the head to pursue a clean harvest and a better hunting score.
Account for Changes Since the Demo
The full release changed tracking and introduced new Whitetail antlers compared with the demo. When following older footage, use your current inspect prompt for tracking and assess antlers as they appear in your game.
